What we can and can’t make
This is the physical envelope of our machines today. Every design is checked against it automatically while you prompt; if something falls outside, the chat tells you before you see a price and suggests the nearest thing we can build.
Size and accuracy
- Plastics: any shape up to 30 cm on the longest side.
- Metals: aluminium and brass up to 5 × 5 cm footprint and 2.5 cm tall; sheet steel up to 20 × 20 cm at 1 to 3 mm thick.
- Dimensions land within 3% of what you specify, or ±0.3 mm on small features, whichever is larger. A 100 mm part comes back between 97 and 103 mm. Machined aluminium holds ±0.1 mm.
- Minimum wall thickness: 0.8 mm in nylon, 1.0 mm in PETG and ASA, 1.2 mm in TPU. Minimum hole Ø 1.5 mm. Embossed text at least 5 mm tall to stay legible.
- Threads M3 to M8 via brass heat-set inserts. We don’t cut threads directly into plastic; they strip.
- Assembled products up to 20 kg and 60 × 40 × 40 cm packed.
Materials
Only what’s on Materials and components and priced on Cost: nylon, TPU, PETG, ASA, tough resin, 6061 aluminium, brass, 304 stainless sheet, walnut, oak and birch plywood. One material per part; multi-material parts are assembled from separate pieces. Parts that touch food are made only in natural nylon or PETG.
Electronics
- Almost any low-voltage circuit: up to 48 V DC and 10 A. Nothing at mains voltage; mains power comes from a certified off-the-shelf adapter.
- Components in stock: 2N2222 and 2N2907 transistors, IRLZ44N MOSFETs, NE555 timers, LM358 op-amps, 74HC595 shift registers, resistors from 1 Ω to 1 MΩ, capacitors from 1 pF to 1,000 µF, common diodes, LEDs and regulators, plus the boards, motors and sensors listed on Cost.
- Printed circuit boards: up to two layers, 100 × 100 mm, 0.2 mm minimum trace, through-hole or 0805-size surface mount. No BGA packages.
- Radio: pre-certified modules only (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LoRa, GNSS) until our own RF designs arrive on the roadmap in 2028. No custom antennas or transmitters.
- Batteries: only from our stocked cells, always with a management board, and they ship by ground.
- Firmware in C, C++, MicroPython or Arduino, delivered with the source. We don’t build phone apps; a product that needs one gets a web interface instead.
Finish
- Laser-sintered nylon is matte with a fine grain, off-white or dyed black. Extruded parts show layer lines of 0.2 mm. Resin is smooth.
- Aluminium is bead-blasted by default; anodising in black, clear or a specified colour costs extra.
- Colour matching to a brand reference is approximate on dyed nylon and exact on anodised aluminium.
What we won’t build
- Anything at mains voltage or above 48 V.
- Medical devices, implants, or anything that goes inside a body.
- Anything that holds a person’s weight: ladders, seats, climbing gear, child restraints.
- Pressure vessels, compressed gas parts and fuel systems.
- Weapons, weapon parts and accessories, or anything designed to hurt.
- Aircraft or vehicle parts where failure is unsafe, and drones over 250 g without the buyer’s registration.
- Anything that must never fail. If a failure would be dangerous rather than annoying, we’re not the right maker yet.
If we miss
If a part arrives outside the tolerances above, tell us within 14 days and we remake it or refund it, your choice. Design changes you didn’t ask for are our mistake; a design you approved that doesn’t do what you hoped is a conversation, and usually a cheap second iteration.
